Top 20 Dams of Merit and Top 20 Dams of Distinction!

Proud to once again, receive Dams of Merit and Dams of Distinction Awards.DAVIDSON GELBVIEH of PONTEIX, SK was recently recognized by the Canadian Gelbvieh Association (CGA) as the owner of 70 Gelbvieh cows exhibiting the consistent maternal efficiency typical of "The Continental Breed of Choice." The CGA has designated these outstanding beef females as Dam of Merit and Dam of Distinction.

Maternal productivity plays a major role in profitable beef production, as nearly 60 percent of the cost of producing a pound of beef can be attributed to the cow herd. Considerable economic research has demonstrated that fertility and calving ease followed by milk, growth, and carcass cutability have the biggest influence on profit in a retained ownership (conception to carcass) system.

Open House & Pasture Tour 2018
On July 28, 2018, Davidson Gelbvieh and Lonesome Dove Ranch hosted a Customer Appreciation Day and Cattle Tour at their ranches southwest of Ponteix, SK. They were honoured to host tour participants from across Canada and the United States, as well as right close to home too. Friends, customers, neighbours, and family enjoyed a cow-focused afternoon of viewing purebred Gelbvieh pairs which the round up crews had gathered nicely in each pasture. After touring several pastures, the day was rounded out with a beef supper, hospitality, and visiting at the sale barn.

Davidson Gelbvieh Genetics in Australia, June 2018
Cow in AustraliaAustralia's national Beef Expo is one of the world's great beef cattle events and is held just once every three years in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia. It features more than 5,000 cattle from over 30 breeds.

Showcasing the best beef cattle Australia has to offer to the world is at the core of Beef Australia's existence. As such, the cattle competitions were at the heart of the Beef Australia 2018 program, with events including live stud cattle judging, commercial cattle classes, junior judging and paraders, led steers and carcass competitions.

A highlight for Davidson Gelbvieh was to hear they had bloodlines that attributed to a win at this prestigous event for Australian Gelbvieh breeders, Midas Gelbvieh Cattle Co., Chris & Julie Braithwaite, of Murgon, Queensland. The winning Female, Midas Elssa M0009, is sired by DVE Davidson Pld Dan, a son of DVE Davidson Dandy 75Z.

RUNNER UP!

Davidson Gelbvieh & Lonesome Dove Ranch recently showed cattle at the 2014 NWSS in Denver Colorado. The Gelbvieh barn was fuller than they had every seen it in the many years, 25+ years, they have attended the NWSS! There was just under 270 head of Gelbvieh cattle on the hill ... one of the largest contending breeds showing at the NWSS.

Huba Huba 32A was the Runner Up at the 2014 Bull Futurity in Denver.Davidson Gelbvieh were in the Winner's Circle once again when their Gelbvieh peers, the members of the 2014 Breeder's Choice Bull Futurity, 52 members in total, voted DVE Davidson Huba Huba 32A a Runner Up in contention for the contiguous winnings of the Bull Futurity.

The 2014 Champion Futurity Bull, owned by Warner Beef Genetics of Beaver City, Nebraska, won over $25,000, while each of the runners-up, both Davidson Gelbvieh, of Ponteix, SK and TAU Jumpman 23A, Taubenheim Gelbvieh of Amherst, Nebraska will each receive cheques for approximately $2,500. US Funds.

Earlier in the fall, DVE Davidson Huba Huba 32A stood alongside his Grand Champion Gelbvieh Dam, a two year old, at the 2013 Canadian Western Agribition in Regina, SK. The Jan 28, 2013 born, homozygous black, homozygous polled bull will be a featured lot in their bull sale at the ranch, as they celebrate their 25th Anniversary Bull Sale on Sat March 1, 2014 near the communities of Cadillac and Ponteix, SK.

Davidson Gelbvieh entered DVE Davidson Huba Huba 32A in the Bull Futurity at the 2014 National Western Stock Show in Denver. Homozygous Black and Homozygous Polled, Huba Huba 32A is a Jan. 28th 2013 edition of the Navaho sired progeny. Navaho offspring in our 2013 bull sale were some of the very favourite and the high selling sale group. We sold a calendar year Navaho sired heifer at the Canadian Western Agribition Sale recently, for $8,000. DVE Davidson Huba Huba 32A stood alongside his dam as she was named Grand Champion Female at the November, 2013 Canadian Western Agribition in Regina, Saskatchewan. A great young two year old mom with an ideal udder, substance, and loaded with engaging eye appeal. Ideal EPDs, moderate birth weight, and an adjusted 205 of 852 lbs round this bull's credentials out. Look for this young sire to carry a long-sided, eye-appealing stance, deep flanked and well muscled. Lots of scrotal development and disposition too. All the traits that are inheritable and most desirable! Homozygous Black and Homozygous Polled, Huba Huba 32A is a Jan. 28th 2013 edition of the Navaho sired progeny.

The successful Gelbvieh breeders live just kilometres from where they grew up south of Ponteix, Sask. They married young, at 18, and moved to their existing home 35 years ago.

But in other ways they have moved light years.
