PONTEIX, Sask. — In one way, Vernon and Eileen Davidson didn’t go far.

The successful Gelbvieh breeders live just kilometres from where they grew up south of Ponteix, Sask. They married young, at 18, and moved to their existing home 35 years ago.

But in other ways they have moved light years.

The Canadian Gelbvieh breeders had great success showing and selling as they very recently participated in the N.I.L.E. in Billings, Montana USA. On Thursday morning, Oct 20th, 2011 prior to the show Davidson Gelbvieh, Ponteix, Saskatchewan participated in the NILE Gelbvieh Female Futurity and Sale. The Heifer Futurity selected by the membership was won By Danell Diamond Six Ranch of Lewistown, Montana. In a draw down process the lucky cardholders were Davidson Gelbvieh and they won the heifer! Vernon & Eileen Davidson topped the sale and sold a fabulous February 1, 2011 Red Wrap daughter for $6200 to repeat buyers M Heart D Gelbvieh of Stevensville, Montana.

In afternoon the N.I.L.E. Gelbvieh show was held with participation by Gelbvieh breeders from across the greater western states including Utah, Washington, Oregon,Montana and Canada. Reserve Grand Champion Female was DVE Davidson Ms. Jim 61T and her bull calf DVE Davidson Ynot 37Y. Winning Junior Champion Bull was DVE Davidson Hoss 1X a son of a Champion DVE Davidson Cowboy 20U.

Judge Jake Scott of Gordon, Nebraska chose the Grand Champion Bull DVE Davidson Ynot 37Y born Febuary 9th, 2011.  He is a son of the 2011 National Western Stock Show Reserve Grand Champion Bull DVE Davidson Romance 116W earlier named in January 2011 in Denver, Colorado, USA.

Davidson Gelbvieh • Vernon & Eileen Davidson & Family of Ponteix, Saskatchewan recently participated in the 2010 Farmfair International in Edmonton, Alberta where they won the Grand Champion Gelbvieh Female with their entry, DVE Davidson Ms Secret 78U and her January 21,2010 bull calf DVE Davidson Hoss 1W. They as well won the Grand Champion Gelbvieh Bull award with their 2 year old entry, DVE Davidson Cowboy 20U who is the sire of the calf at side of their Grand Champion Female. They were too the winners of the Breeder's Herd and Premier Breeder Banners!

 

The Canadian Gelbvieh Association recently recognized Davidson Gelbvieh as the number one Gelbvieh breeder for the most Dams of Distinction and Dams of Merit in 2010!

The Canadian Gelbvieh Association also credits the top 20 Gelbvieh Sires of the 2010 Dams of Merit and Dams of Distinction in 2010. The top listed sires are: DVE Davidson Pld Blk Jim 6L and Davidson Red Wrap 26G. Both bulls were bred and raised by Davidson Gelbvieh and have had a tremendous impact on their cow families. Of the top 20 bulls, Vernon and Eileen have the credit of 5 of those sires, 4 of which they bred and 1 of which they purchased.

Frontier Days Purebred Livestock Show

July 1st, 2010 • Swift Current, Saskatchewan Just under 60 head of purebred cattle representing Charolais, Red Angus, Horned Herefords, Black Angus, Simmental, Red Angus and Gelbvieh competed within their respective breeds and then went on to compete for the Supreme Championships. Gelbvieh were well represented with DVE Davidson Ms Secret 78U and her Jan 21/10 bull calf DVE Davidson Hoss 1X sired by DVE Davidson Cowboy 20U winning the Supreme Champion Female Over All Breeds. Once again Gelbvieh were in the limelight when DVE Davidson Romance 116W, a son of DRT Mambo 32T won Reserve Supreme Champion Bull Over All Breeds. Judge for the day was Jamie Rae Pittman from Kyle, Saskatchewan.
